Fuel House

 An underground space of 600 square meters, located in the urban core of Nicosia, where our studio accepted the design challenge as to transform this underground into a contemporary urban Gym!

The layout of the space consists of the main entrance which is located at the level of the ground floor. By following the central staircase, the visitor begins his descent to the main areas of use. A short but empirical route where somewhere in the middle has been placed a small-scale facility where it will be used as a retail store for fitness products.

Descending to the final level of the basement, the space is diagrammatically placed and divided into 4 different axes with the main reference point as a main corridor of 25 running meter length. In addition to its functional presence as a bridge of communication between the common areas, the sanitary areas and other services, it will be used as a space for stretching but also as a multifunctional space for artistic expression, fashion presentations, etc. Toilets, baths and storage Lockers where anyone can safely temporarily store their personal belongings are also located at the end of the corridor. in this axis also, we have included the various operating systems of the project as well as office for staff, storage space etc.

The reception area is located on the horizontal axis of the space, which extends and ends in a bar area. Opposite the reception area / bar, the main actions of the project are evolving. The core of the gym! Two powerful rooms! the boxing and the bootcamp room. Both rooms are equipped with high-tech sound and lighting systems and are fully equipped with state-of-the-art fitness equipment.

Generally, the design intention or better the central idea of the development of the space concerned the empirical use mainly by the space users. the redefinition of the architectural identity through the revelation of the space during the demolition, basically determined our final canvas. A continuous gesture of abstraction and simplification of the design approach. A dialogue between memory and consciousness…
